At this time of year it is important for all of us to recognize our blessings and give thanks for all that we have. From big global things like living in the best country in the world with more resources and opportunities than anywhere else, to very personal parts of our lives like our friends, family and careers. We all need to take the time to really consider how these factors have influenced us. In real estate sales we are always dealing with a lot of problems. Quite frankly, it is about 90% of our job. We deal not only with legal and technical problems but often also with psychological problems like grief, divorce or other major issues which come up in peoples’ lives. About 25 years ago I remember one event that really showed me how fortunate I am. I was driving down County Road 92 just north of St Boni on my way to an appointment. It was the middle of winter and the temperature was about 10 below zero and quite windy. I was dealing with a client who had had some significant changes in his life and was having a hard time facing the reality of his situation. So, in my mind, I was complaining about the cold windy weather and the fact that when I arrived in Waconia, where I was headed, I would be faced with a major life problem for this person that I had to help resolve. Then I looked up to my left where the power and/or phone lines ran above the side of the road. There, atop a power pole was a workman braving the bitter weather to repair the service for other people. I was immediately struck by the fact that I should be grateful for my nice warm automobile and my heavy top coat which would protect me as I went from my car to the house of my client. I became thankful that I had a client to deal with and that I had the experience and knowledge to really help him in his situation. Sometimes, we have to look at things in a relative way to really understand how good we have it. Annie and I have been blessed this year with our best year in real estate in about 9 years. Yes, we have faced a lot of problems for ourselves and for our clients, but it has been worth it and it is gratifying to know that we have helped others. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday.
