Before you start decorating the outside of your house in funky colored pumpkins for Halloween, you should understand what this project is all about!
Several children suffer from dangerous food allergies, diabetes, or other medical conditions, thus there is a nationwide movement to provide more than just candy to the cute trick-or-treaters at your door! This movement is called the Teal Pumpkin Project. The movement has been gaining in popularity and awareness year-after-year, with several retailers now even selling pumpkins pre-painted or decorated in the appropriate color scheme.
The Teal Pumpkin Project enables children who may suffer from a dangerous condition to have a safer and happier Halloween, without suffering further from the stigma of their situation. By leaving a teal pumpkin outside your house, it represents that you will be offering a non-food 'treat' to your visiters. Several ideas for non-food treats include:
- Mini Slinkies
- Playing Cards
- Glow sticks, bracelets, or necklaces
- Vampire fangs
- Pencils and/or erasers
- Mini notepads
- Bouncy Balls
If you plan on participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project, consider downloading a poster or flyer from the Food Allergy Research & Education website here to help further the awareness of this campaign.
We at RE/MAX Advantage Plus wish everyone a very Happy and Safe Halloween!
